Prayers for Holy Communion:

Prayer of Saint Basil the Great, 1st

Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the Source of life and immortality, of all creatures visible and invisible to the Creator, of the beginningless Father, co-eternal with the Son and co-originating, for the sake of goodness in the last days, clothed in the flesh, and crucified, and buried for us thankful and evil-minded, and Yours He renewed our nature corrupted by sin with blood; Himself Immortal King, accept my sinful repentance, and incline Your ear to me, and hear my words. I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned against heaven and before You, and I am not worthy to look at the height of Your glory; angered by Your goodness, transgressing Your commandments, and not listening to Your commands. But You, Lord, who are not malice, long-suffering and many-merciful, did not betray me to perish with my iniquities, expecting my conversion in every possible way. Thou didst say, O Lover of mankind, Thy prophet: as if by desire I do not want the death of a sinner, but to turn and live to be him. Do not wish, O Lord, to destroy Your hand in creation; below, you favor the destruction of mankind, but you wish to be saved by everyone, and come to the understanding of truth. The same and az, if I am unworthy of heaven and earth, and sowing temporary life, obeying sin all to myself, and enslaving with sweetness, and desecrating Your image; but having been Your creation and creation, I do not despair of my salvation, accursed, daring to Your immeasurable goodness, I come. Accept me, O Lord of mankind, like a harlot, like a thief, like a publican and like a prodigal, and take my heavy burden of sins, take the sin of the world, and heal human infirmities, call and give rest to those who are laboring and burdened to You, call the righteous who have not come, but sinners to repentance. And cleanse me from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and teach me to perfect the sanctity in Your fear: as if by the pure knowledge of my conscience. Having received some of Your holy things, I am united to Your Holy Body and Blood, and I have You living and abiding in me, with the Father and Your Holy Spirit. Yes, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, and let the communion of the most pure and life-giving Mysteries of Yours not be in court, let me be weak in soul and body, from which it is more unworthy to partake; but give me, even until my final breath, uncondemnedly perceive a part of Thy Holy Things, in the communion of the Holy Spirit, in the guidance of the eternal belly, and in a favorable answer to Thy Terrible Judgment; for even with all your chosen ones I will be a partner of your incorruptible blessings, even if you have prepared for those who love you, Lord, in them you have been glorified forever. Amen.

co-eternal- also eternal (eternal - eternally existing). co-beginning- also having no beginning (eternal) and bosses (omnipotent). Embrace the flesh- incarnated (clothed in flesh) (Followed also participial forms of verbs: crucified - betrayed Himself to be crucified, buried - betrayed Himself to be buried). for us- for us. my verbs- my words. You said more ... your prophet - for you spoke through your prophet. Come into the mind of truth- reach the knowledge of the truth. Temzhe and az- so me. I am even more unworthy- even though I'm not worthy. Sowing temporary lives- this short life. Sweetie- sensual pleasures. philanthropy- mercy. Like the prodigal- that is, like the prodigal son; Sin take up the world- taking upon Himself the sins of the world (then again a series of participles: heal- healing call- calling, resting - giving peace). Commit a shrine- to manifest complete, perfect holiness, to become completely holy. As if by pure knowledge of my conscience- so that I have a pure testimony of my conscience (information - evidence, literally - co-knowledge; the word conscience itself consists of the same parts: conscience, knowledge shared with God, the voice of God in the soul). From the hedgehog unworthy of those communion- from their unworthy communion. Until my last breath- until my last breath (literally: the last exhalation). Perceive part- take communion. Into the path of the eternal belly commoner- participant, one who has a common part. Imperishable- here: pure, unalloyed, abiding in their entire composition ... Thou hast prepared- which You have prepared. In them- in which.

Part of this prayer coincides with the priest's secret prayer at the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, read during the petitionary litany, before the Lord's Prayer.

In prayers for Communion, the words and episodes of Holy Scripture are especially often recalled - primarily the Gospel, and this is understandable: it is in the Sacrament of Communion that God most clearly enters our lives, but another way must constantly be open for His entry into us: through His word which is alive and active (Heb. 4:12), which must constantly act in us and be perceived as addressed to us personally, as something most important for our whole life. Therefore, it is very important not to "skip" episodes of Holy Scripture in prayers, but to renew them in memory, in your heart.

Thou didst say, O Lover of mankind, Thy prophet: As if by desire I do not want the death of a sinner, but to turn and live to be him. Say to them: I live, says the Lord God: I do not want the death of the sinner, but that the sinner turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways; Why should you die, O house of Israel? (Ezek. 33:11).

Thou shalt not, O Lord, destroy thy hand, be pleased with the destruction of mankind, but thou shalt be saved by all, and come into the understanding of truth. Here are the words of the Epistle of the Apostle Paul, where it is said that the Lord wants all people to be saved and reach the knowledge of the truth (in the Slavic Bible: Whoever wants to be saved by all men, and come to the knowledge of the truth) (Tim. 2, 4).

Receive me also, O Lord, loving of mankind, as a harlot, as a robber, as a publican, and as a prodigal. This and subsequent prayers turn us to the image of a sinful woman who anointed Jesus' feet with myrrh (Luke 7:36-47), a prudent thief who called on the cross: Remember me, Lord, when you come into Your Kingdom! (Lk.23:42), the prodigal son (Lk.15:11-32); the image of the publican, most likely, is collective: we can also remember the apostle, the evangelist - the publican Levi-Matthew, who, leaving everything, followed the Lord and was honored to receive Him in his house (Luke 5:27-32), and repentant the head of the publicans Zacchaeus, who also received a visit from Christ (Lk.19:2-10) and the humble publican of Christ's parable, who went to his house more justified than the Pharisee (Lk.18:10-14), and, finally, numerous publicans and sinners who repeatedly shared a meal with Christ and his disciples and followed Him (Matt. 9:11; Matt. 11:19; Mark 2:15; Luke 5:30; 7:34; 15:1).

Take away the sin of the world, and heal human infirmities, call and give rest to those who labor and are burdened to You, who did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Let us recall the passages in the Gospel from which these words are taken: Behold the Agnes of God, Who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). Come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). I came to call not the righteous, but sinners to repentance (Mt. 9:13; Mk. 2:17; Lk. 5:32).

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom, 2nd

Lord, my God, we know that I am not worthy, I am satisfied below, but under the roof of the temple of my soul, I am all empty and eaten, and do not have a worthy place in me, hedgehog head; but as if from a height you humbled us for the sake of yourself, humble yourself now to my humility; and as if you took it in the den and in the manger of the wordless near, I perceive it and in the manger of my wordless soul, and enter into my defiled body. And it’s like you didn’t deign to take in, and candles from sinners in the house of Simon the leper, so having deigned the thread into the house of my humble soul, lepers and sinners; and as if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You, have mercy on me, a sinner, who comes and touches You; and as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean ones that kiss Thee, below my filthy lips and unclean ones, below my vile and unclean lips, and my filthy and uncleanest tongue. But may the coal of Your Most Holy Body, and Your Honorable Blood, be mine, for the sanctification and enlightenment and health of my humble soul and body, for the relief of the burden of many of my sins, for observance from every devilish act, for the repulsion and banning of my evil and crafty custom, into the mortification of passions, into the provision of Thy commandments, into the application of Thy Divine grace, and appropriation of Thy Kingdom. Not as if despising I come to You, Christ God, but as if daring for Your inexpressible goodness; and may I not depart from Thy fellowship, from the mental wolf I will be hunted by the beast. The same I pray to You: as the only Holy One, Lord, sanctify my soul and body, wombs and wombs, and renew all of me, and root Your fear in my hands; and make Thy sanctification inseparable from me; and be my helper and intercessor, nourishing my belly in the world, vouchsafe to me and at the right hand of You the presence with Your saints, prayers and prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your immaterial servants and most pure Forces, and all the saints who have pleased You from time immemorial. Amen.

Veem, as if I'm worthy, below satisfied- I know that I am unworthy and not sufficient (the words satisfied and worthy are synonyms, they have the same meaning; the use of synonymous words in one phrase to enhance the meaning is characteristic of both the language of the Bible and the language of prayers). Zanezhe- because. Empty and fallen to eat- it is empty and in ruins. Don't imashi- You don't gain. Bow your head- where would (You) bow your head. As if from a height you humbled us for the sake of yourself- how You (descended) from the height (Heavenly) and for the sake of us humiliated (belittled Yourself. As if you perceived- as You pleased, as You pleased. In the manger of the wordless- that is, in the manger of dumb animals (non-verbal - animals). Sice- So. Wordless my soul- unreasonable, reckless my soul. Vniti- to come in. Candlelight- take part in the evening - dinner. Usten- lips. Compliance- preservation. Plain- habits, habits. Supply- compliance. Application- multiplication. Don't look down on me- for not as cocky. Thoughtful- spiritual. Like the only Holy- because You alone are Holy. Womb and womb- internal organs. in the lands- in the members of the body. nourishing- guiding (how the helmsman directs the ship). My belly- my life. vouchsafe me- honoring me. Right hand to you- standing at your right hand (that is, with the righteous).

And do not imash a worthy place in me, hedgehog bow your head ... Words of the Lord: Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head (Matt. 8:20; Luke 9:58) - prayer addresses us personally: it is we who must become the dwelling of Christ.

But as if from a height you humbled us for the sake of yourself, humble yourself now to my humility. The word humility in this phrase plays with all shades of its meaning. The words Thou hast humbled Thyself from on high mean both "You came down from on high" and "You humbled Yourself." The words humble yourself and now support and develop both of these meanings to my humility: descend now from the Heavenly heights to me, who is below; humble yourself even now before me, insignificant ... and humbly, without pride, crying out to you. (In the Greek text, where in the Slavic it stands humble - the word (symmetriason), that is, "commensurate": liken Yourself to me in size!).

For the meaning of the word humble, see also the note to the 5th Morning Prayer.

As if you took it in a den and in a manger of wordless near ...- see: Luke 2:7.

As if you did not deign to take in, and the sinners shine with sinners in the house of Simon the leper ...- see: Mt.26:6; Mark 14:3.

As if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You ... as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean, kissing You ... - see: Luke 7: 36-50.

Yes, do not move away from Thy fellowship, from the mental wolf I will be hunted by the beast ... Again we have a phrase of a characteristic Greek structure: the negation yes does not refer not to the nearest words, but to the phrase as a whole: "let it not happen that, far separated from You, I will be abducted by a spiritual wolf."

Prayer of Simeon Metaphrastus, 3rd

The only pure and incorruptible Lord, for the inexpressible mercy of philanthropy, our all perceptible mixture of pure and virgin blood more than the nature of the One who gave birth to You, the Divine Spirit by the invasion, and the goodwill of the Father, the Eternal, Christ Jesus, the wisdom of God, and peace, and power; By your perception, life-giving and saving, perceived suffering, cross, nail, spear, death, kill my soulful bodily passions. By your burial of the hellish captivating kingdom, bury my good thoughts with crafty advice, and deceive the evil spirits. By your three-day and life-giving resurrection of the fallen forefather, raise up me who crawled with sin, offering me images of repentance. By Your glorious ascension, carnal deifying perception, and this by the right hand of the Father by graying of mail, make me worthy to receive the right part of those saved by the communion of Your Holy Mysteries. By the removal of the Teacher of Your Spirit, the sacred vessels are honest, Your disciples have made, friend, and show me That coming. Although you should come and judge with the universal truth, favor me to see Thee in the clouds, the Judge and Creator of mine, with all Your saints; May I endlessly glorify and sing to Thee, with Your Beginningless Father, and Your Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Imperishable- here: whole, pure, unadulterated (having no extraneous element in His Divine nature - as opposed to our "mixing". Mixing is a complex, "composite" nature. More than nature- supernatural. Birth Tya- who gave birth to you. Your perception- that which is perceived by You, that is, the flesh accepted by You. perceived- accepted. Sly advice- evil, bad intentions. Spirits of cunning- spirits of evil. bust- disperse, disperse. Creeped by sin- fallen into sin (literally: slipped in sin). Offering me models of repentance can be understood in two ways: offering me samples of repentance, or else: giving me the means to repentance. carnal deifying perception- deified the (human) flesh you accepted. And this by the right hand of the Father with gray mail- and gave her honor to sit on the right of the Father. gum part- right side. Snitie- descent. Vessels are honest - precious vessels (receptacles of the Spirit). Your sacred disciples- Your holy disciples. My friend, show me your coming I - reveal me as the receptacle of His coming. Packs- again. Meet You on the cloud- to meet You, coming on the clouds.

This prayer consistently holds before our inner gaze the stages of the House-building of God, the mystery of the salvation of the human race in the Person of Christ - His Incarnation, Christmas, Passion, Crucifixion, Burial, Resurrection, Ascension, the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, the Second Coming, the Last Judgment - and all this closely connects with the preparation for the reception of the Holy Mysteries of Christ and with the very participation in the Sacrament of Communion. The work of God's Providence is turned by this prayer for me personally, it converges to the point of my heart, my life. In this respect, the prayer is reminiscent of the secret prayer of the Eucharistic Canon (the center of the Liturgy), when thanksgiving is offered through the priest for the whole remembered work of our salvation (also up to the Last Judgment), and the altar with the Holy Mysteries turns out to be the "vanishing point". The whole prayer of Simeon Metaphrastus is directed to the Holy Mysteries...

Bury my good thoughts with sly advice ... The order of words is different from what we are used to: bury my evil intentions with good thoughts.

Prayer of St. John of Damascus, 4th

Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, only have the power of a person to forgive sins, as a Good and Humanitarian, despise my whole knowledge and not knowledge of sin, and make me unjudgmentally partake of the Divine, and glorious, and pure, and life-giving Your Mysteries, not in heaviness, neither in torment, nor in the application of sins, but in purification, and sanctification, and betrothal of the future belly and Kingdom, in the wall and in help, and in the objection of the opposition, in the destruction of many of my sins. You are the God of mercy, and generosity, and philanthropy, and we send glory to You, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

despise- leave it unattended. In control and not in control - consciously and unconsciously. Application- multiplication. future belly- future life. To the objection of the opposing- to ward off enemies.

Prayer of Saint Basil the Great, 5th

Veem, Lord, as unworthy I partake of Your Most Pure Body and Your Honorable Blood, and I am guilty, and I judge myself and drink, not arguing the Body and Blood of You, Christ and my God; but on Thy bounties, daringly, I come to Thee who said: whoever eats My Flesh, and drink My Blood, abides in Me, and Az in him. Have mercy then, O Lord, and do not rebuke me a sinner, but deal with me according to Your mercy; and may this Holy One be with me for healing, and purification, and enlightenment, and preservation, and salvation, and for the sanctification of soul and body; to drive away every dream, and crafty deed, and the action of the devil, thinking in my hands of the acting one; in boldness and love, even to Thee; for the correction of life and affirmation; in the return of virtue and perfection; in fulfillment of the commandments, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, in the guidance of the eternal belly, in response favorable at Your Terrible Judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

On your bounties daring- trusting in your mercy. Holy this- This shrine. Lukavago- evil. The actions of the devil- diabolical influence. Thinking in the jaws of my action- acting through the thoughts in my members. Return- cultivation, growth. Into the path of the eternal belly- as a guide to eternal life.

Judgment to myself of pits and Pius, not arguing the Body and Blood of You, Christ and my God ... For whoever eats and drinks unworthily, he eats and drinks condemnation to himself, not considering the Body of the Lord (1 Cor. 11:29).

I come to You who said: whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood, abides in Me, and Az in him. - He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood abides in Me, and I in him (John 6:56).

Prayer of St. Simeon the New Theologian, 6th

From bad lips, from a vile heart, from an unclean tongue, from the soul defiled, accept prayer, my Christ, and do not despise my words, below images, below studiolessness. Give me boldness to speak, even if I want, my Christ, moreover, teach me what it is fitting for me to do and speak. I have sinned more than a harlot, even if I have taken away where you live, having bought peace, come boldly to anoint Your feet, my God, Lord and my Christ. As if he did not reject what came from the heart, disdain me below, the Word; Give me your nose, and hold and kiss, and tearful streams, like a valuable world, this boldly anoint. Wash me with my tears, cleanse me with them, O Word. Leave my transgressions, and grant my forgiveness. Weigh a multitude of evils, weigh and my scabs, and see my ulcers, but weigh faith, and see volition, and hear sighing. You do not hide, my God, my Creator, my Redeemer, below a teardrop, below a drop of a certain part. What I have not done is seen by Your eyes, but in Your book and not yet done, the essence is written to You. See my humility, see my work as a tree, and leave all sins, God of all; Yes, with a pure heart, with a trembling thought, and with a contrite soul, I will partake of Your undefiled and Holy Mysteries, and everyone who eats and drinks with a pure heart is enlivened and adored. Thou hast said, O my Lord: whoever eats my flesh, drink my blood. In me, this ugly abides, and in him I am also. Truly is the word of every Master and my God: Communion of God and God-giving graces, for I am not one, but with Thee, my Christ, the Light of the three suns, enlightening the world. Yes, because I will not be alone except for You, the Giver of Life, my breath, my stomach, my joy, the salvation of the world. For this sake, I come to You, as if you see, with tears, and a contrite soul; I ask you to accept the deliverance of my sins, and to partake of Your life-giving and immaculate Sacraments without condemnation, so that you remain, as you said, with me, repentant; Yes, except for finding me Your grace, the deceiver will delight me with flattering, and deceitfully take away those who worship Your words. For this sake, I fall down to You, and I cry warmly to You: as if you accepted the prodigal, and the harlot who came, so accept me, prodigal and filthy, Generous. Contrite soul, now coming to You, we see, Savior, like another, like I, do not sin against You, below the deed of the deed, even I am the deed. But we pack this, as it is not the majesty of sins, nor the multitude of sins that surpasses my God, much long-suffering and extreme philanthropy; but the mercy of compassion is warmly penitent, and cleanse, and shine, and create light, partakers, fellows of Your Divinity, making it unenviously, and strange both with an angel and with human thought, talk to them many times, as if your true friend. This audacity works me, this one puts me in charge, my Christ. And daring with Your rich beneficence to us, rejoicing together and trembling, fire and partake of this grass; and a strange miracle, we irrigate it without disgrace, as if the bush were burning in ancient times. Now, with a grateful thought, with a grateful heart, with grateful hands, my soul and body, I bow and magnify, and praise Thee, my God, as a blessed being, now and forever.

Below images- and no customs, mode of action. Studioless- shamelessness, a manifestation of a shameless disposition. Give mi- give me. Say, I want- to say what I want. Even more so- but better. I sinned more- I have sinned more. I've already taken away- who, having learned. Vesey- You know. The will of the seer- you see the direction of my will, diligence, desire. My unfinished- what I have not yet done to the end, I have not completed. Videste- see (dual number form). And still not done - something that I have not done yet. God of all- God of the whole world (everything - everything that exists, the universe I). quivering- full of awe. Immaculate - pure. Everyone who eats and drinks - everyone who eats and drinks. You were saying- because you said. Except You outside of You, without You. In addition to finding me Your grace- finding me deprived of Your grace. Charmer- tempter, deceiver, that is, the devil. Flattery delights me- insidiously kidnap me. seductive- deceiving, leading astray. Warm- hot. crying out- I call. Thou didst accept the prodigal How did you receive the prodigal son? Veem ... like another, like az, do not sin against You- I know that no one else has sinned against You as I have. Below is the deed of the deed, even az of the deed and didn't do what I did. But we still know this, like- but I also know that. By the grace of compassion- merciful compassion. Warmly penitent- ardently penitent. Svetishi- enlighten. Create light communicants- connect to the world. Communicators of Your Divinity co-operate without envy- informing them generously of Your Divinity. Like a friend- as with friends. This boldness creates me- it gives me courage (this - neuter gender, plural - translates as "this", not "these"). This is me- it inspires me. Together- together; here: and at the same time. Ognevi I take communion grass- I partake of fire, being grass. Like a bush of ancient times- as in ancient times a bush (bush). Udesy- members.

I have sinned more than a harlot, even if I have taken away where you live, having bought peace, come boldly to anoint Your feet ...- see: Luke 7:36-47.

Thou hast said, my Lord: everyone who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood, this one abides in Me, and I am in him.- See: John 6:56.

Thou didst receive the harlot, and the harlot who came- again a reminder of the prodigal son (Lk.15:11-32) and the sinful wife, already mentioned in this prayer (Lk.7:36-47).

It is a strange miracle, irrigated, not disgraceful, like a bush of ancient times, burning unrepentantly.- See: Exodus 3:2-6.

By the grace of compassion... cleanse and brighten... In the Greek text, the word "mercy" is conveyed by its frequent symbol: oil, oil ..., which is perfectly supported by the words pure and bright (oil as a healing agent and as oil in a lamp).

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom, 7th

God, weaken, leave, forgive me my sins, I have sinned, if by deed, if by thought, willy or not, mind or foolishness, forgive me all, as Good and Humanitarian; and with the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your intelligent servants and holy Forces, and all the saints who have pleased You from time immemorial, uncondemnedly be pleased to accept Your Holy and Most Pure Body, and Honest Blood, for the healing of the soul and body, and for the purification of my evil thoughts. For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Smart- immaterial, spiritual (that is, Angels).

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom, 8th

Be satisfied, O Master Lord, that you may enter under the shelter of my soul; but if you wish, you, like a Lover of mankind, live in me, daringly I approach; command me to open the door, even though you alone created you, and enter with philanthropy, as if you were, enter and enlighten my darkened thought. I believe that you will do this; not for the harlot who came to you with tears, you drove away; below the publican rejected thou who repented; lower than the thief, having called upon thy kingdom, thou hast driven away; below the persecutor, who repented, left thou, hedgehog; but from repentance to you, who came all in the face of your friends, you, the One Blessed One, always, now and forever and ever. Amen.

I'm happy- I'm not worthy. You want better- as you wish. Hedgehog- how it was. In the face of your friends you have charged- gave (them) a place in the host of Your friends.

Not for the harlot who came to You with tears, you drove away ...- See: Luke 7:36-47.

Below the publican rejected thou who repented ...- see: note to the 1st prayer for Communion.

Below the thief, having known Your Kingdom, thou hast driven away...- See: Luke 23:39-43.

Thou left below the persecutor who repented… - we are talking about the Apostle Paul - See: Acts 9:1-22.

Prayer of St. John Chrysostom, 9th

Lord Jesus Christ, my God, weaken, leave, cleanse and forgive me the sinful, and indecent, and unworthy servant of Your transgressions, and sins, and my fall, Thy tree from my youth, even to this day and hour I have sinned: if in the mind and in foolishness, even in words or deeds, or thoughts and thoughts, and undertakings, and all my feelings. And by the prayers of the seedless birth of Thee, the Most Pure and Ever-Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, the only shameless hope and intercession and my salvation, make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure, immortal, life-giving and terrible Mysteries, for the remission of sins and eternal life; for sanctification and enlightenment, strength, healing and health of the soul and body, and for the consumption and all-perfect destruction of my evil thoughts, and thoughts, and enterprises, and nightly dreams of dark and evil spirits; for Yours is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, and honor, and worship, with the Father and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Elika- here: which. Consumption- extermination. destruction- destruction. Enterprises- here: representations (that is, what is presented to the mind's eye, not yet accepted into the mind and heart). Night dreams of dark and crafty spirits- night visions of dark and evil spirits.

In the consumption and all-perfect destruction of my crafty thoughts, and thoughts, and enterprises, and the night dreams of dark and crafty spirits ... Here, special emphasis is placed on the fact that the communion of the Holy Mysteries is the strongest weapon in the fight against thoughts. Therefore, anyone for whom this struggle is relevant and painful, as well as everyone who is tormented by dreams, night fears and other attacks of the "mental enemy", should read this prayer with special attention and feeling.

Prayer of Saint John of Damascus, 10th

I stand before the doors of Your temple, and I do not retreat from fierce thoughts; but you, Christ God, who justified the publican, and had mercy on Canaan, and opened the door to the thief of paradise, open the wombs of your love of mankind, and receive me as I come and touch you, like a harlot, and bleeding. Ova, having touched the edge of Your robe, make healing pleasant; Ove is pure, holding your feet, bear the resolution of sins. But I am accursed, daring to perceive all Your Body, but I will not be scorched; but accept me, like one, and enlighten my spiritual feelings, burning my sinful guilt, with the prayers of the unchanging Birth of Thee, and the heavenly Powers; for blessed art thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.

ova ubo- because one. Convenience healing is pleasant- immediately received healing. Ova same- the other one.

Christ God, who justified the publican, and had mercy on the Canaanites, and opened the door to the thief of paradise ... For the publican and the robber, see note to prayer 1; about the Canaanite woman - Matthew 15:22-28; Mark 7:25-30.

Accept me as I come and touch You, like a harlot, and bleeding ... For the harlot, see note to prayer 1; about bleeding - Matthew 9:20-22; Mark 5:25-29; Luke 8:43-48.

Prayer of Saint John Chrysostom

I believe, Lord, and I confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, who came into the world to save sinners, from whom I am the first. I also believe that this is Your Most Pure Body, and this is Your Most Honorable Blood. I pray to Thee: have mercy on me, and forgive my sins, voluntary and involuntary, even in word, even in deed, even in knowledge and ignorance, and make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins and eternal life. Amen.

From them the first is az- of which I am the first. I pray ubo- so I pray.

I believe, Lord, and I confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God...- He says to them: and who do you take me for? Simon Peter, answering, said: You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Then Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonas, because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven (Matthew 16:15-17).

Having come into the world of sinners to save, from them I am the first.- The saying is true and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief (1 Tim. 1:15).

***

“Even though you have ascended the whole ladder of virtues, nevertheless, even then pray for the forgiveness of sins, hearing what St. Paul says about sinners: “I am the first of them.”

Saint John of the Ladder

***

When you come to take communion, say mentally these verses of Metaphrastus:

I now proceed to Divine Communion.

Co-worker, do not singe me with communion:

Fire fighting, unworthy fire.

But cleanse me from all filthiness.

Sodetel- Creator (vocative). Fire for thou art Because You are Fire.

Thy secret supper this day, Son of God, take part in me; we will not sing secrets to your enemy, nor will I give kisses to you, like Judas, but like a thief I will confess you: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

Horror of the deifying Blood, man, in vain:

There is fire, unworthy fire.

Divine Body and adores and nourishes me:

He loves the spirit, but the mind nourishes strangely.

in vain- seeing.

Then troparia:

Delight me with love, O Christ, and change me with Thy Divine zeal; but my sins fell into an immaterial fire, and to be satisfied with the hedgehog in Thee of pleasure: Yes, rejoicing, I magnify, Blessed, Thy two comings.

Your divine word- holy desire for You. To be unsatisfied with pleasure in You is to be filled with pleasure contained in You; enjoy you to the fullest.

Yes, rejoicing, I magnify, Blessed, Thy two comings- that is, the first, at the Incarnation, and the second, at the end of the world. When we unite with Christ in the Mystery of Communion, saturating ourselves with the pleasure contained in Him, His coming is realized for us personally, here and now, and then we can not abstractly, “theoretically”, but rejoicing with our whole being, glorify both the first and the second the coming of Christ, so close to us at this holy moment.

In the lordship of Your saints, how can I enter, unworthy? If I dare to go to the chamber, the clothes convict me, as if I were not married, and I will be cast out from the Angels. Cleanse, O Lord, the defilement of my soul, and save me, like a Lover of mankind.

In the light of your saints- in the bright host of your saints. How will I enter - how will I enter? If I dare to sovnit - because if I decide to enter with them.

The troparion refers us to Christ's parable of those called to the wedding feast - See: Matt. 22:2-14.

Also a prayer:

O Lord, Lover of mankind, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, may this Holy One not be in judgment, for the unworthy of being, but also for the purification and sanctification of the soul and body, and for the betrothal of the future life and Kingdom. But it is good for me to cling to God, to place in the Lord the hope of my salvation.

May this Holy One not be in my court- let this Shrine be not an accusation to me. For a hedgehog unworthy of being - for my unworthiness.

But it is good for me to cling to God, to place in the Lord the hope of my salvation.- Ps.72:28 (in Russian translation: And it is good for me to draw near to God! I put my hope in the Lord God).

Thy secret supper this day, Son of God, take part in me; we will not sing secrets to your enemy, nor will I give kisses to you, like Judas, but like a thief I will confess you: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

Quoted from:

"How to learn to understand prayers?".
-M.: "Father's house", 2007

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, God the Lord, and appear to us.

There is one holy, one Lord, Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father, amen.

Grace and generosity, and the love of mankind of Thy Only-begotten Son, blessed be Thou with Him, with the most holy, and good and life-giving Thy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever.

Choirs: Amen.

And the deacon proclaims again:

Wonmem- and goes into the altar through the side doors, and the priest, raising the consecrated Lamb over the paten, as a sign of our redemption through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, loudly pronounces the words:

Holy to the holy!

The holiness of God sanctifies only those who approach it cleansed by repentance, with faith and contrition of heart. In a humble consciousness of sinfulness, the prayers answer:

Those. Yes, indeed, there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, holy and sinless, and the touch of the soul to Him can only purify it. Without Him - we are all sinful and unworthy - only by His mercy can we proceed to Holy Communion.

After that, the clergy proceed in the altar, behind closed doors, to Communion, and in the Church at this time, the so-called communion verse is sung, the content of which changes, depending on the day when Mass is served.

The priest takes communion in this way: he breaks the Lamb into four parts; one of them with the inscription Jesus lowers into the Chalice and pours warmth (hot water) into it, depicting with this combination of the Body and Blood of Christ - His Resurrection. The other part XS. after saying a prayer: I believe, Lord, and confess - communes himself, - separately the Body, then the Blood of the Lord, as was done in the first centuries of Christianity. Then he applies himself to the rim of the Chalice, saying: Behold, I will touch my mouth, and take away my iniquities, and cleanse my sins, thanks God for Communion and, having broken the remaining parts of the Lamb into as many parts as there will be communicants, lowers them into the Chalice as well.

At the end of the Communion of the priest and the singing of the sacramental verse, the veil opens, the Royal Doors open and the deacon, carrying the Chalice in his hands, stands in the Royal Doors facing the people and says:

Come with the fear of God and faith, which means: come with reverence and faith to receive sanctification and salvation, - and the chanters sing in response:

(Mat. 21:9).

The communicants get closer to the Royal Doors on the salt, and listen to the prayer of John Chrysostom, which the priest reads, standing near the Chalice, in the Royal Doors:

I acknowledge and loudly confess, Lord, that You are the true Son of God, Jesus Christ, Who came down to earth to bring salvation to sinners, of whom I feel myself the most sinful.

I also believe that this is Your most pure Body, and this is Your most precious Blood. I pray to Thee: have mercy on me and forgive my transgressions, free and involuntary, even in word, even in deed, even in knowledge and ignorance, and make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins and eternal life.

I also believe that this is Your most true Body and Your most holy Blood, and I ask You, Lord, have mercy on me and forgive me all my sins, conscious and unconscious: whether in words, in my deeds, with or without intention, Forgive me everything, and make me worthy to partake of Your most pure Mysteries, so that through them I will receive cleansing from sins and eternal bliss.

Thy secret Supper today, Son of God, accept me as a partaker: we will not sing a secret to Thy enemy, nor will I give kisses to Thee, like Judas, but like a thief I confess Thee: remember me, Lord, in Thy Kingdom.

Allow me, Lord, to participate in Your Last Supper today! I promise not to betray You, like Judas, who, after his hypocritical kiss, immediately delivered You into the hands of enemies - but I appeal to Your mercy together with the thief who repented on the cross: remember me a sinner in Your kingdom.

On Thursday of Holy Week, during the last meal with the apostles, Christ established the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The Son of God served the companions with bread and wine. They symbolized the flesh and blood of Christ, his sacrifice in the name of all sinners living on earth. This food soon became the basis for the church sacrament of Communion.

During the Divine Liturgy, the faithful make speeches of repentance and petitions to the Lord. The prayer of the Supper of Your Secret before communion from time immemorial is traditional for the ceremony. This hymn helps to purify the soul and gain repentance, which is so necessary for a Christian to conduct the sacrament of Communion.

How does the prayer of Your Secret Supper help?

An Orthodox Christian must remember that the Heavenly Father is the protection and support in the life of any layman. There is no need to be ashamed to ask the Lord, for he is merciful and righteous. The Prayer of Your Secret Supper is read in the following cases:

  • In grief and sorrow. Provides an opportunity to talk with God about life's difficulties.
  • In an effort to be cleansed from the fall and receive the forgiveness of the Lord.
  • In the kitchen or dining room before a meal. Blesses for cooking and eating. Expresses gratitude to the Lord for the opportunity to eat food.

When and how to pray

On Maundy Thursday, during the Liturgy, with participation in the church sacrament of communion, you need to read the prayer of Your Secret Supper.

While singing a prayer before communion, it is important to feel peace and drive away any bad thoughts from yourself. According to Orthodox canons, a person came into the world for kindness and love for his neighbor.

When pronouncing the text of the prayer of Your Secret Supper, one must remember the slaughter of the Son of God, his torments and the miracle of the resurrection

At the same time, one should strive with all one's soul to merge with the image of Christ.

It will not be superfluous to pronounce the prayer every day, for it will give the fruits of God's mercy. Namely:

  • It overshadows food with a blessing and therefore can be used every time before a meal.
  • It gives firmness of the spirit of humility and strengthens the believer in repentance.

Prayer text

I believe, Lord, and I confess that you are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, who came into the world to save sinners, from them I am the first. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body, and this is Your precious Blood. I pray to you: have mercy on me and forgive my sins, voluntary and involuntary, even in word, even in deed, even in knowledge and ignorance, and make me worthy to partake without condemnation of Your most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins and eternal life.

Thy Secret Supper today, Son of God, a communicant (participant) accept me: we will not sing a secret to Your enemy, nor will I kiss Thee, like Judas, but like a thief I confess Thee: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

May the communion of Your Holy Mysteries, O Lord, not be for judgment or condemnation, but for the healing of soul and body. Amen.

Translation of the text of the prayer into Russian

I believe, Lord, I openly admit, I declare that You are truly the Christ, who came into the world to save sinners, of which the first (th), that is, the biggest (th), is me. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body, and this same is Your precious Blood. Therefore, I pray to you: have mercy on me and forgive me the sins made of my own free will and made against my desire, which I did in word or deed, knowing or not knowing that it was sinful. and receive eternal life.

Son of God, make me a participant (participant) of Your Last Supper: I will not reveal secrets to Your enemies, and I will not give You such a kiss as Judas, but as a thief (who repented on the cross) I believe in You and I say to You: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

God! Let the communion of Your Holy Mysteries be for me, not in condemnation or punishment, but in the healing of soul and body. Amen.

Prayers for Holy Communion:

Prayer of Saint Basil the Great, 1st

Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the Source of life and immortality, of all creatures visible and invisible to the Creator, of the beginningless Father co-eternal with the Son and co-eternal, for the sake of goodness in the last days, clothed in the flesh, and crucified, and buried for us thankful and evil-minded, and Yours He renewed our nature corrupted by sin with blood; Himself Immortal King, accept my sinful repentance, and incline Your ear to me, and hear my words. Yes, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, and let the communion of the most pure and life-giving Mysteries of Yours not be in court, let me be weak in soul and body, from which it is more unworthy to partake; but give me, even until my final breath, uncondemnedly perceive a part of Thy Holy Things, in the communion of the Holy Spirit, in the guidance of the eternal belly, and in a favorable answer to Thy Terrible Judgment; as if with all your chosen ones I will be a partner of your incorruptible blessings, even if you have prepared for those who love you, Lord, in them you have been glorified forever. Amen.

co-eternal- also eternal (eternal - eternally existing). co-beginning- also having no beginning (eternal) and bosses (omnipotent). Embrace the flesh- incarnated (clothed in flesh) (Followed also participial forms of verbs: crucified - who betrayed Himself to be crucified, buried - who betrayed Himself to be buried). for us- for us. my verbs- my words. You said more ... your prophet, for you have spoken through your prophet. Come into the mind of truth to reach the knowledge of the truth. Temzhe and az– so me. I am even more unworthy even though I'm not worthy.

And it’s like you didn’t deign to take in, and candles from sinners in the house of Simon the leper, so having deigned the thread into the house of my humble soul, lepers and sinners; and as if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You, have mercy on me, a sinner, who comes and touches You; and as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean ones kissing Thee, below my filthy lips and unclean ones, below my vile and unclean lips, and my filthy and uncleanest tongue. Not as if despising I come to You, Christ God, but as if daring for Your inexpressible goodness; and let it not be at a distance from your fellowship, from the mental wolf I will be snared by the beast.

Empty and fallen to eat It's empty and in ruins. Don't imashi- You don't gain. Bow your head- where would (You) lay your head. As if from a height you humbled us for the sake of yourself- how You (descended) from the height (Heavenly) and for the sake of us humiliated (belittled Yourself. As if you perceived- as You willed, as You pleased. In the manger of the wordless- that is, in the manger of dumb animals (non-verbal - animals). Sice- So. Wordless my soul- unreasonable, reckless my soul. Vniti- to come in. Candlelight- take part in the evening - dinner. Usten- lips. Compliance- preservation. Plain- habits, habits. Supply- compliance. Application- multiplication. Don't look down on me- because not as impudent. Thoughtful- spiritual. Like the only Holy because You alone are Holy. Womb and womb- internal organs. in the lands in the members of the body. nourishing- guiding (as the helmsman directs the ship).

As if you did not deign to take in, and the sinners shine with sinners in the house of Simon the leper ...– see: Mt.26:6; Mark 14:3.

As if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You ... as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean ones that kiss You ...

Amen.

Imperishable- here: whole, pure, unalloyed (having no extraneous element in His Divine nature - as opposed to our "mixing". Mixing is a complex, "composite" nature. More than nature- supernatural. Birth Tya- who gave birth to you. Your perception- by that which is perceived by You, that is, by the flesh received by You. perceived- accepted. Your sacred disciples“Your holy disciples. My friend, show me your coming I - make me also the receptacle of His coming. Packs- again. Meet You on the cloud– to meet You, coming on the clouds.

In this respect, the prayer is reminiscent of the secret prayer of the Eucharistic Canon (the center of the Liturgy), when thanksgiving is offered through the lips of the priest for the whole remembered work of our salvation (also up to the Last Judgment), and the “vanishing point” is the altar with the Holy Mysteries. The whole prayer of Simeon Metaphrastus is directed to the Holy Mysteries…

On your bounties daring- I trust in your mercy. Holy this- This shrine. Lukavago- evil. The actions of the devil- diabolical influence. Thinking in the jaws of my action– acting through the thoughts in my members. Return- growth, growth.

– Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him (John 6:56).

Prayer of St. Simeon the New Theologian, 6th

Below images- and no customs, ways of action. Studioless- shamelessness, a manifestation of a shameless disposition. Give mi- give me. Say, I want- to say what I want. Even more so- but better. I sinned more- I have sinned more. I've already taken away- who, having learned. Vesey- You know. The will of the seer– you see the direction of my will, diligence, desire. My unfinished- what I have not yet done to the end, I have not completed. Videste- see (dual number form). And still not done - what I have not done yet. God of all- God of the whole world (everything - everything that exists, the universe I). quivering- full of trepidation. Filthy - pure. Everyone who eats and drinks - everyone who eats and drinks. You were saying because you said. Except You outside of You, without You. In addition to finding me Your grace– finding me deprived of Your grace. Charmer- tempter, deceiver, that is, the devil. Flattery delights me- treacherously kidnap me. seductive- deceiving, leading astray. Warm- hot. crying out I call. Thou didst accept the prodigal How did you receive the prodigal son? Veem ... like another, like az, do not sin against You– I know that no one else has sinned against You as I have. Below is the deed of the deed, even az of the deed and didn't do what I did. But we still know this, like– but I also know that. By the grace of compassion- merciful compassion. Warmly penitent- ardently penitent. Svetishi- enlighten. Create light communicants- connect to the world. Communicators of Your Divinity co-operate without envy– giving them generously a part of Your Divinity. Like a friend- as with friends. This boldness creates me- it gives me courage (this - neuter gender, plural - translates as "this", not "these"). This is me- it inspires me. Together- together; here: and at the same time. Ognevi I take communion grass I partake of fire, being grass. Like a bush of ancient times- as in ancient times a bush (bush). Udesy- members.

I have sinned more than a harlot, even if I have taken away where you live, having bought peace, come boldly to anoint Your feet ...- see: Luke 7:36-47.

Thou hast said, my Lord: everyone who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood, this one abides in Me, and I am in him.– See John 6:56.

Thou didst receive the harlot, and the harlot who came- again a reminder of the prodigal son (Lk.15:11-32) and the sinful wife, already mentioned in this prayer (Lk.7:36-47).

It is a strange miracle, irrigated, not disgraceful, like a bush of ancient times, burning unrepentantly.– See: Exodus 3:2-6.

I believe that you will do this; not for the harlot who came to you with tears, you drove away; below the publican rejected thou who repented; lower than the thief, having called upon thy kingdom, thou hast driven away; below the persecutor, who repented, left thou, hedgehog; but from repentance to you who came all in the face of your friends, thou art the One Blessed One always, now and forever and ever. Amen.

I'm happy- I'm not worthy. You want better- as you wish. Hedgehog- how it was. In the face of your friends you have charged- gave (them) a place in the assembly of Your friends.

Not for the harlot who came to You with tears, you drove away ...– See: Luke 7:36-47.

Below the publican rejected thou who repented ...- see: note to the 1st prayer for Communion.

Below the thief, having known Your Kingdom, thou hast driven away...– See: Luke 23:39-43.

Thou left below the persecutor who repented… – we are talking about the Apostle Paul – See: Acts 9:1-22.

And by the prayers of the seedless birth of Thee, the Most Pure and Ever-Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, the only shameless hope and intercession and my salvation, make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure, immortal, life-giving and terrible Mysteries, for the remission of sins and eternal life; for sanctification and enlightenment, strength, healing and health of the soul and body, and for the consumption and all-perfect destruction of my evil thoughts, and thoughts, and enterprises, and nightly dreams of dark and evil spirits; for Yours is the Kingdom, and power, and glory, and honor, and worship, with the Father and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever.

Convenience healing is pleasant- Healed immediately. Ova same- the other one.

Christ God, who justified the publican, and had mercy on the Canaanites, and opened the door to the thief of paradise ... For the publican and the robber, see note to prayer 1; about the Canaanite woman - Matthew 15:22-28; Mark 7:25-30.

Receive me as I come and touch You, like a harlot, and bleeding ...

I pray ubo– so I pray.

I believe, Lord, and I confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God... He says to them: And who do you take me for? Simon Peter, answering, said: You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Then Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonas, because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven (Matthew 16:15-17).

Having come into the world of sinners to save, from them I am the first.—The saying is true and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief (1 Tim. 1:15).

“Even though you have ascended the whole ladder of virtues, nevertheless, even then pray for the forgiveness of sins, hearing what St. Paul says about sinners: “I am the first of them.”

Saint John of the Ladder

Then troparia:

Delight me with love, O Christ, and change me with Thy Divine zeal; but my sins fell into an immaterial fire, and to be satisfied with the hedgehog in Thee of pleasure: Yes, rejoicing, I magnify, Blessed, Thy two comings.

Your divine word- with a holy desire for You. To be unsatisfied with pleasure in You is to be filled with pleasure contained in You; enjoy you to the fullest.

Yes, rejoicing, I magnify, Blessed, Thy two comings- that is, the first, at the Incarnation, and the second, at the end of the world. When we unite with Christ in the Sacrament of Communion, saturating ourselves with the pleasure that lies in Him, His coming is realized for us personally, here and now, and then we can not abstractly, “theoretically”, but rejoicing with our whole being, magnify both the first and the second the coming of Christ, so close to us at this holy moment.

In the lordship of Your saints, how can I enter, unworthy? If I dare to go to the chamber, the clothes convict me, as if I were not married, and I will be cast out from the Angels. Cleanse, O Lord, the defilement of my soul, and save me, like a Lover of mankind.

In the light of your saints- in the bright assembly of your saints. How will I go in - how will I enter? If only I dare to sovnit - because if I decide to enter with them.

May this Holy One not be in my court– may this Holy Place not be an accusation to me.

"How to learn to understand prayers?".

I BELIEVE, LORD, AND I Confess that YOU ARE VERY CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD... (prayer at the Liturgy before Communion) Archpriest Andrey Tkachev You go on Sunday morning from home towards the temple, and they will ask you: “Are you going to church are you going?" God save you from bashful apologies: “Well, yes. You know, I believe, I go. So used to it. I'm not a fanatic - I just like to listen to the choir. Or something similar. Feel free to say: “I believe and confess. I praise Christ to the best of my ability." Don't tell your neighbors yourself: "I'm going to church." They don't pull on the tongue. But if they themselves ask, do not be ashamed to boldly say that you believe in the Son of God. Otherwise, you will fall under the hammer of His words. And His words will crush you. Flattened. And He Himself will be ashamed of you later. They still don’t take us by the throat because of Christ, they don’t drive us from work, they don’t beat us in the face for our faith. Although in some places stewardesses or nurses are already being driven from work for a pectoral cross. Tolerant West. We don't have this. Not yet. And it is a sin for us, the grandchildren of the New Martyrs, to blush and make excuses. We can sometimes go on the attack. They told you: “Do you go to the temple? Do you believe in God?" And you answer: “What are you, no?” Let them be ashamed, not us. It's a shame not to believe. There is no shame in believing. It's time, brothers, it's time for us to go on the attack. It's time to boldly confess Christ. I believe in my Lord. I bow to His Cross. I praise His Nativity from the Virgin. I confess His Resurrection. There are thousands of everyday situations in which the sound of these words is appropriate and justified. And be prepared, brothers and sisters with tender souls, that you will be called fanatics, called fools, considered obscurantists and adherents of the Middle Ages. They will certainly count, call and name. Every confessor of the name of Christ must at least once feel the scorching flame of satanic hatred. Let a little bit, but even this little bit will be enough to know from within the power of the gospel words and get involved in the ongoing struggle of darkness with Light. Yes, if you have not yet been called names for Christ, have not been condemned and have not been considered “touched”, then it is quite possible that you believe somehow. Believe with some kind of convenient faith, from which neither demons are afraid, nor angels have fun. But as soon as you give your poor heart into the hands of Jesus Christ, pierced by nails, you will soon hear the distant rumble of hellfire and personally know how grandmother's tales differ from life in the Holy Spirit. Fortunately for earthly happiness, we do not call anyone, although we have nothing against earthly happiness. But it is too flimsy, this is earthly happiness. It is flimsy and flying. It flutters - and it's gone. The Apostolic Church calls us to eternal life. And for a start, all you need is that you should not be ashamed under any circumstances of either the cross around your neck, or the name "Christian", or your belonging to the Church of Christ.
